I tried explain that it was for consistency in the piece to make it easier for when I add the details ( which I wouldnt be using symmetry mode for anyway) and she kinda of backed off but now I feel like I shouldn't use it ever. She's more of a traditional artists, she uses pencil and paper and doesn't like using my draw tablet. My girlfriend (also an artist) saw me using it and told me it was cheating and that I won't improve if I rely on it to make pieces.

Well the other day, I began work on a headshot of a character, and I used symmetry mode on the software I was using to lay down the framework of the skull, jaw line, upper shoulders and eye and nose placement. Re-learning bone structure and muscle layouts, and all that jazz. I bought a draw tablet because digital art seemed fun (and it is) and I've been running my self through the basics for the past few months. I pick up drawing again after a solid 4 year hiatus.
